NGAI CAU MACHINERY ACHIEVES EARLY COMPLETION IN 500KV LINE 3 PROJECT

On April 25, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha personally inspected several companies involved in the production, supply, and installation of electrical towers for the 500KV Quang Trach – Pho Noi Transmission Line Project (500KV Line 3) in Hanoi, Bac Ninh, and Hung Yen. As a key contractor for this major project, Ngai Cau Construction and Trade Investment Joint Stock Company has already delivered 14 out of 18 steel towers to the construction site and aims to complete the delivery of all towers by April 30, 2024, meeting the contract’s delivery schedule.

During the on-site visit to the manufacturing facility, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and EVN leaders acknowledged the tireless efforts of Ngai Cau’s staff in delivering towers for the project ahead of schedule, supporting various units in fabrication and production to meet the government’s directives.

In addition to a clean, green working environment and optimal quality control processes, a key factor contributing to Ngai Cau’s successful completion of the project is its possession of modern machinery and automated production systems across many stages. This is one of the strengths highly praised by the inspection team.

Inside Ngai Cau’s manufacturing plant, which covers an area of 25,000 square meters, the production flow has been designed by Japanese experts. The machinery and technology lines are arranged to optimize convenience, save time, and enhance work efficiency at each stage. The steel tower production lines include welding machines, welding robots, CNC bending machines, and CNC drilling machines. Notably, the plant features high-power CNC laser cutting machines and laser cutting technology for steel profiles, provided by the renowned global manufacturers Yawei and ACME. All these devices are supplied and installed by Weldcom. This arrangement aims to optimize the performance of the entire production line, as well as facilitate maintenance and provide 24/7 technical support, operating in a three-shift, four-team system to ensure production schedules are met.

On June 20, 2024, Hải Long Construction Joint Stock Company and Weldcom Industrial Joint Stock Company signed a contract for the installation of smart steel structure production lines at Hải Long Steel Structure Factory – Đại Thắng Factory.

Attending the signing ceremony from Hải Long Construction were Mr. Phạm Anh Tiến, Chairman of Taiyo Group, and Mr. Phạm Tiến Dũng, General Director. Representing Weldcom Industrial were Mr. Hồ Hồng Thiên, Chairman of the Board and General Director, and Ms. Hồ Thị Nga, Deputy General Director. The ceremony was held with great formality in the presence of the leadership teams from both companies.

Under the cooperation agreement, Weldcom will supply and install the Smart Line and Auto Line production lines for Đại Thắng Factory. These lines are equipped with the latest advanced technology for steel structure production. The production lines include high automation systems that optimize the manufacturing process, enhance productivity and product quality, and reduce costs and labor. The factory will be equipped with modern technology and an intelligent management system, with a maximum expected capacity of up to 45,000 tons per year.

With this strategic partnership, Hải Long and Weldcom set the following goals:

1. Enhance the production capacity of steel structures** with the aim of making Hải Long Steel Structures a leading unit in the field of steel structures in Vietnam and the region.
2. Focus on exporting** to high-quality markets such as Japan and South Korea, with products specializing in heavy industrial steel structures.

COLOSSAL WIND TURBINE BASE: GROWING PAINS

As a partner accompanying MICO and PTSC Thanh Hoa from the early days of implementing the colossal wind turbine base construction solution, Weldcom had the opportunity to prove its capabilities and contribute to the project’s outstanding completion.

In early October 2023, PTSC Thanh Hoa successfully fabricated the first three wind turbine bases out of a total of 30 bases for the Greater Changhua 2b & 4 offshore wind power project, with PTSC serving as the general contractor.

The production of all 30 bases is expected to be completed by February 2024, eight months ahead of the project schedule. This achievement is the result of thorough preparation by PTSC and its partners in devising an efficient production and construction plan and investing in appropriate machinery and equipment for the 6-hectare fabrication yard.

Each base weighs 300 tons, stands 15 meters tall, and has a diameter of up to 14 meters. This is one of the most challenging structures of the project, requiring a special production process to meet the investor’s stringent quality standards.

After careful consideration and evaluation of the feasibility and ability of suppliers to meet the construction schedule, PTSC accepted the super welding gantry installation solution proposed by Weldcom and MICO and promptly implemented it. Each welding gantry stands 20 meters tall, can move within a 30-meter range on a 100-meter long rail, and is capable of welding pipes ranging in size from 4 to 14 meters.

The first three wind turbine bases were completed, each weighing 300 tons, standing 15 meters tall, and with a diameter of 14 meters.

Mr. Tran Viet Cuong, the director of the Weldcom factory, stated that this is the largest welding gantry in Vietnam, entirely developed, designed, and constructed by Vietnamese professionals. The entire production and assembly process took only four months, during which Weldcom’s team of design, fabrication, and operational engineers worked continuously to meet the schedule committed to PTSC Thanh Hoa.

He also shared that, despite mastering 100% of the welding technology and being confident with the experience of manufacturing hundreds of welding gantries, Weldcom’s solution experts still faced numerous challenges in this project. These difficulties were due to the impact of weather conditions at the construction site, such as prolonged heat, storms, average wind speeds of levels 6 and 7, and high salinity and humidity in the air.

Mr. Tran Viet Cuong shared the challenges faced during the design, construction, and installation of the welding gantry.Overcoming these hardships, the trio of Weldcom’s massive welding gantries proudly stood at the center of the fabrication yard and played a significant role in the project’s early completion. They left a strong impression and confirmed the capabilities of Vietnamese contractors in the offshore wind power sector.”I can sense the growth of each team member after participating in this project. Everyone continuously learned, expanded their knowledge, and improved their skills, pushing beyond their own limits. Compared to the initial concerns when we first took on the project, the team is now fully confident in handling similar, even more challenging projects,” Mr. Cuong remarked.

The entire solution, including production, installation, and operation, was carried out by Vietnamese professionals.

Following the success of the ‘Technology Day 2023’, Bruco’s solution for robotically enhancing weld stiffness continued to be introduced by Weldcom to customers in the southern region at the 12th Metal & Weld International Exhibition.

During the event, Mr. Tô Văn Sơn, Head of the Robot and Automation Department at Weldcom, presented at the seminar titled ‘Application of Automated Welding Robots in Steel Structures’. In his presentation, Mr. Sơn emphasized that employing robots for enhancing weld stiffness is an optimal choice for steel structure enterprises with medium to large production volumes seeking to automate post-steel beam shaping processes, reducing labor time, costs, and increasing productivity.

Specifically, when employing steel structure welding robots, the product’s quality ensures aesthetic appeal, uniformity, beautiful welds, deep penetration, and precise welding line adjustment by the robot, with a maximum error of 0.05mm. Moreover, this solution aids investors in addressing the economic equation of production costs. With a reasonable initial investment, the welding station helps save labor costs due to continuous 24/7 operations (on average, one technician can operate 4-6 robots), accurately controlled consumable material costs, thus avoiding wastage.
